Medical Aid for Asylum Seekers

Before you can go to see a doctor or to the hosipital, you need to get a so called "Behandlungsschein" (treatment certificate) from the Departement for Youth, Social Affairs and Integration - Team 5.4. Social Affairs. Your contact person is Frau Beier-Koch. In emergencies, you can go first to a hospital or doctor and ask for a Behandlungsschein later and hand it in at the hospital/doctor's office later on. Without a Behandlungsschein, you need to pay for the treatment yourself, which can be quite expensive. Please keep in mind, that most doctors in Germany only speak German or English. It might be a good idea to check in advance, whether your preferred doctor speaks your language or maybe bring an interpreter.
